When you update your LinkedIn profile, you need to protect yourself. Most people only update their LinkedIn profile occasionally and then only when they plan to change jobs.
I understand that job seekers want recruiters and others to know that they are on the job market, but there is a downside letting everyone know you are on the job market. When you click “save,” you are automatically letting everyone you are connected with, including your boss, know you are available for employment.
Do yourself a favor. Before you update your profile, make sure that you go to “Privacy and Settings” and scroll down to “How others see your LinkedIn activity.” Select “Share Job Changes” and reset the switch to “NO.”
There are more changes you will need to make, but this is a critical first step to protecting yourself. If you want more information, write to me at sean@jacksonmcarthy.com or call me at 818-389-1876.
